CFTC to Greenlight Crypto Perpetual Futures ‘Very Soon’: Outgoing Commissioner
The U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) is poised to approve crypto perpetual futures contracts in the near future, according to outgoing commissioner Summer Mersinger. Speaking to Bloomberg, Mersinger revealed that the agency has received multiple applications for these products and expects live trading to commence shortly.
"I think those can come to market now, and we’re seeing some applications, and I believe we’ll have some of those products trading live very soon," Mersinger stated. She emphasized the importance of bringing these financial instruments back onshore, noting that their prolonged offshore availability has been detrimental to the U.S. market.
The regulatory oversight of crypto perpetual futures by the CFTC marks a significant step forward for the industry. Mersinger described it as "a really good thing for these markets," highlighting the potential benefits of increased institutional participation and market stability.
